Is it 'rw' for your current user? I think I remember having to
chmod/chown it to get it to work for anyone but root.... And if you
are using devfs, '/dev/dsp' is a symlink to '/dev/sound/dsp'; add the
following to '/etc/devfsd.conf':
REGISTER ^sound/.* PERMISSIONS root.users 660
