Tried and failed. I've checked and I'm running the
1.3.0a version.

Let me ask this. I disabled SELinux about two days
ago. Could that have had any effect?

Yes, assuming you install proftpd-1.3.0a from source.
If you install
using proftpd-1.3.1rc2, for example, you might find
some of the directives
have been deprecated; these are documented in the
RELEASE_NOTES file that
comes with the source.
