No, I don't have this turned off:

[root@corpftp etc]# grep -i wtmp /etc/proftpd.conf
[root@corpftp etc]#

last shows the last login time. finger does not.

I've got many (>500) external customer accounts that access the system
exclusively via ftp. I'd like to know when the account was last used.

[root@corpftp etc]# finger foo1
Login: foo1 Name: System foo1 - automated processing
Directory: /home/foo1 Shell: /bin/bash
Office: c/o Ed Wilts
Never logged in.
No mail.
No Plan.
[root@corpftp etc]# last foo1
foo1 ftpd9389 150.228.64.51 Mon May 9 02:24 - 02:24 (00:00)
foo1 ftpd6599 150.228.64.51 Sun May 8 20:03 - 20:03 (00:00)

wtmp begins Sun May 1 06:22:03 2005
