Strange USB Mouse problem
I am running gentoo with 1.6.2-gentoo kernel. My Microsoft Wheel Mouse
Optical on a USB port is recognised when I use a "livecd" to install
the system, but when I boot up the computer the mouse isn't
recognised.
The synaptics laptop nipple and touchpad are both on /dev/input/mice
and /dev/usbmouse and each one is on /dev/input/mouse0 and mouse1
respectively.
I cannot figure out how to get the USB mouse working correctly, I
would prefer if it was the only mouse available, but I don't mind if
the synaptics stuff is still available. Could anyone please give me a
few tips or better give me some steps to follow because I have read
everything I can find on this topic to no avail.
I have included dmesg from when it doesn't work and when it does work
respectively below.

I saw something like this with a USB keyboard on an XP system. Upon boot the
keyboard was not detected. After boot, if I unplugged it and re-plugged it in,
the PnP detection kicked in.
Turned out it was a USB 1.2 (I think) keyboard on an USB 2.0 bus.
A new 2.0 keyboard behaved as expected upon boot.
