Tried it here with Linux and it loaded with the Firefox Mplayer plugin,
format is video/x-ms-asf

Don't listen to Wayne! He uses Linux and try to find friends here.

To reach your goal, at first you must install WarpVision 1.0 RC2,
WinCodecs (ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wvgui) and Odin
(http://www.os2warp.org/odin/2005/odi...release-xp.zip).

To hook into the streams you can put WarpVision Plugins to
Mozilla/Firefox or apply MediaPlayerConnectivity
(membres.lycos.fr/sethnakht) for Firefox.

That's all. Here is no problem to hear the stream media.

Duh! You are an idiot! An OS is just a tool like anything else. I don't
need to find friends anywhere, I have plenty, Mac users, Linux users,
Windows users and non PC users! The OP asked a question and I was in a
position to answer. If you couldn't answer the question you needn't
have butted your oar in. Now, buzz off, grow up and get a life!

Thanks, but this is an OS/2 forum. I haven't gotten to the point where
I'm using Linux *quite* yet. Soon, perhaps.

Doesn't the "ms" in "video/x-ms-asf" stand for "MicroSoft"?

How's WarpVision's performance on an antique PC like mine?
(Pentium 200MMX, 128 MB RAM)

Seems to me I tried installing it once and couldn't get it to do
anything, but that was a long time ago.

You wanted to know the format, didn't you? Does it matter what OS is used
to find out?

Anyway, you may possibly be able to stream it with Warpvision, although
it usually crashed after 2 minutes or so for me. You may have to install
Odin and the windows codecs though. Otherwise you're SOL.

But he *did* answer, and it was an OS/2 answer. Relax, guy. It's only
ones and zeroes. Someday I'll probably need Linux advice and I'd like
to know I can follow yours.

In Microsoft's case, yes, it often does matter. They're quite fond of
locking up their formats and making it difficult for users of
intelligent OSes to access them.

Do you happen to know what program is typically used to create such
files as "video/x-ms-asf"? And when you opened it, did you get a video
stream, or just audio?

> Otherwise you're SOL.

If I am, I am. I was only experimenting anyway. Since I'm on dialup,
streaming radio is out of my reach.

I didn't read that far down. After I read his stupid remark I didn't
bother. He reminded me of the person who wrote this:

http://shelleytherepublican.com/2006...computers.html

The twit doesn't even know I have OS/2 installed on another machine which
is incapable of connecting to the internet and I have no space on this
machine for it as I need to get things done which it can't handle like
copy old videos of my kids from tape to disk to DVD.

I only got audio, but I didn't run it for long as I was copying a tape
while burning a DVD to free up disk space and didn't want to overtax this
old machine!

I feel your pain. When I got ADSL I felt free :-)

There are a lot of MP3 streamimg sites and some OGG ones too which are
supported very well on OS/2. Depends on your taste in music :-) A must
have is Z!, which I'm sure you have installed. I remember PM123 was OK
But last time I tried it seemed to have a small bug, maybe it's fixed.

I recorded the old videos (VHS) and burned DVDs all with eCS.
My kids are very happy.

Although WarpVision is not yet perfect (RC2 still), but I can apply
stream videos and audios for sometimes, not only 2 minutes, maybe much
longer than you think....

I didn't mention VHS! I said videos, from a video camera.

Right, so I'm supposed to spend even more money on an OS that is no
longer sold by it's creator and will not be supported after the end
of this year, Even Serenity will not not buy a support contract at
the end of this year. What kind of mug do you take me for? I've got
this really nice bridge I want to sell, are you interested?

After a quick look, surely that's gotta be a joke site? Nobody can
possibly be THAT stupid, uninformed, bigoted and conformant to every
single extreme anti-American stereotype in the lexicon... right?

....right?

(Continuing to hold some faith in humanity...)

Anyway, Wayne, as long as you use any OS/2 at all, your perspective is
perfectly acceptable here.

BTW, you still in Japan? I've just ported a Japanese-English dictionary
program to OS/2, in case you find that interesting...

I really don't know, perhaps I'm getting a tad too cynical :-)

Oh,yes, I'm still here. After 18 years on this visa (5 x 3 years plus 3
x 1 year) I'm going to try to apply for permanent residence. It's slightly
better than sleeping under a bridge in London!

Are you basing it on Jim Breen's dictionaries? I'd be more interested in
going the other way (J > E)

To be honest, there are only two apps I really use it for and one is
StarOffice. I made up my (business) cards on it and they do not import
well into OpenOffice. It was easier to have OS/2 on an old PC for that.
I've tried making them up from scratch but I set up the template for
Japanese size cards and it works well in SO. Also, I made up some teaching
material on Lotus Wordpro. Rather that mess about converting it to Word or
RTF and losing the formatting I kept it for the same reason. Another point
is because the teaching material is only text I can use an ancient Epson
dot matrix ribbon printer! :-)
