    The "N" in NFS stands for "network"

    What exactly are you trying to do?

    Yes. Export your "locally mounted firewire external hd" through NFS,
    i.e. put that in your /etc/exports. For security reason, you may want
    to limit it to 127.0.0.1 only.

    Then you can NFS mount yourself and access that filesystem.
