I haven't tried OpenVPN yet, but I struggled for several hours with
OpenSwan/L2TP.

After following the instructions at http://www.natecarlson.com/linux/ipsec-l2tp.php
and correcting several error I made on the way, I think I am close to
having it working now.

It is late now, so I will continue tomorrow and come back with more
questions, or (hopefully) just a few tips for others on what made it
work in the end...
