Networking Newbie - IPv4 Header Info
I am reading a book on networking and it says that in the IPv4 header the
Total Packet Length parameter describes the entire length of the packet, in
bytes, including the header. Since it's 16 bits long, an IP packet can be
at most 65,535 bytes long.
Does this mean that within the Total Packet Length parameter the largest
number that it can effectively store is 65,535?
Or in other words:
Is the number 65,535 the largest number that a 16bit "variable" for want of
a better word or 16bit "parameter" can store?
