  1. bandwidth monitoring software

    Hi all,

I was looking for some bandwidth software to run on a Win2003 server to
monitor and record all IP traffic on all NICs on the system. I've tried
many demos and found that none can distinguish traffic between different IP
addresses assigned on the same NIC like you may find on a webserver or ftp
server. The reason for this is to accurately quantify traffic for billing
purposes of a given account, not only for web and ftp, but also databases
and other applications including bandwidth utilized in remote control
    sessions (notorious bandwidth hogs).
For a given period (say, a month), I just need a traffic report (inbound,
outbound & peak) to compute the cost and determine whether throttling will
be necessary. The traffic needs to be divided by Server name/DNS name
(virtual or otherwise), IP address and port #.
    I don't need graphs, charts, fancy graphics & bells/whistles, just a simple
report such as the one below:

    Dates Traffic
Name (or domain name) IP Address Port From To Inbound Outbound Total
    Peak Bandwidth

If anyone knows of such an app that is reasonably priced (say <$200) please
let me know so I don't have to write the app myself (ugh). (a program
without crazy licensing/extortion fees would be nice).
I figure it would have a small program that runs in the background of each
machine being monitored, then a console app would grab the data from each
    machine and display a report.

    TIA

    Try NetGrid - http://www.monitoring-software.net/i...g-software.htm

    Thanks,

I tried their software, but it can't break down traffic by IPs nor by ports.
A lot of bandwidth monitoring software is like that, unfortunately - so the
search continues. SNMP-based software (the high-priced stuff) is also
incapable of distinguishing traffic on a per-IP basis when multiple IP
addresses are on the same NIC (managed or unmanaged).
Looks like I'm going to have to write this myself (ugh).
