    hostname is whatever you want to call the system, so unless they name
    it lin*, or un*, or win*, it is impossible to tell by it's hostname,
    there are programs that will keep a log of all the systems and their
    OS but you ussually need a client on every system and that means you
    have to be the admin to know. but if you are the admin, you already
    know.
