Re-partitioning the hard drive won't help. Problem is, the normal 486 BIOS simply doesn't support booting from a CD-ROM. See, neither the 486 BIOS nor DOS know anything about CD-ROMs. That's why, when you're running DOS, it's necessary to load a software driver for the CD-ROM drive itself, and then load another driver which implements the 'CD-ROM Extensions' for DOS to use (MSCDEX under M$-DOS, NWCDEX under DR-DOS, etc.). 'Fraid you're plumb outta luck, son. You'll have to boot from a floppy disk -- the way God intended that a computer should boot. Or from the hard drive, of course. But by all means, do get rid of that 'boot manager' program that's currently installed on the hard drive. It'll cause you untold grief later on down the road. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |
