Thread: Exporting Bugzilla configuration

  1. Exporting Bugzilla configuration

Is there any support for exporting configuration from an existing
Bugzilla 3.2 server to a new server, without backup/restore of entire
source DB? Would like to carry over configuration without any bug data.

Unless you've made database schema modifications, just copy the
bugzilla directory. You will need to modify the data/params file to
change the URL, change the localconfig file to change your database
name, and delete the data/attachments directory contents, but other
than that it is a straight tar/copy. Should be simple.

If you've made no modifications whatsoever except parameters, you can
just copy the data/params to the new server and be on your way.

    Thanks Mike,

My (mis?)understanding was that in newer version of Bugzilla like our
v3.2.2, most of the runtime configuration lives in the database
(PostgreSQL in our case). So this config updated via web UI is
actually all written to data/params and only bug data to the SQL db?

To expand on your statement above, I don't believe we have made any
schema modifications. I copied over the modified data/params file.
Also diff'd all other Bugzilla files and PostgreSQL dumps. There are
definitely Bugzilla configuration settings stored in the database and
in some cases referenced in data/params. For example, the bug_severity
    table contains custom values.

Searching hasn't turned up much info on exporting and importing this
kind of data, separate from bug data (e.g. full db backup/restore).
Seems like merging plain text SQL dumps (at the table level) and then
restoring the merged file may be the way to go, but I'm very open to
    an officially sanctioned approach.
