    Hi All.

    Thanks very much for this.

Apparently this plug-in doesn't handle more than 1000 contacts.

I tried copying less than a thousand to a dedicated folder as a work
around but for some reason it wants you to rerun the routine after about
    ten contacts get queried.

I'm assuming that there isn't anything that is more robust or reliable
but would sure be happy to get a referral before I finish doing these
    manually...

    Much cheer and much thanks,

    Jonathan

    Jo,
a very annoying task you are working on. I know the mentioned XPI and I
    understand the frustration you have.
Doing this job in the TB/AB environment isn't that easy. I ended up with
exporting (*\) the TB/AB and imported it into Excel (.. or OpenOffice
TAB). Also not that easy but for me it was somewhat better.

*\ using LDIF, but that requires a decoding in eg. EXCEL ... I can
supply a utility for that ;-)

    Hi g.

I'm about 2/3 through as of last night. Back at it this morning.

    Thanks for this.

I started to think a better route was to export last night.

I don't have much tolerance for too many hoops in this respect however.

Once I get things cleaned up is there a *convenient* format to get back
to OL so's I can Sync up with my Phone at some point?

Can you describe your export routine a little more? LDIF is an export
option out of TBird, then you opened in Excel and ran some utility on
the excel spreadsheet? At this point I would/could import the xls into
    Outlook?

Obviously a bunch of hoops so it would be nice to get a strategy once I
    get things cleaned up manually...

    Jo,
all those things around TB and OL started for me to migrate from OL to
TB. With the idea to quit using MS OL.
For that I have used some support routines (JScript with HTA) to convert
OL Contacts and Events/Todos to standard format. The contacts to become
LDIF, the events/todos ICS. You will find a description at
    http://www.mozdev.org/source/browse/...peOL_HowTo.pdf.
Also there is ZIP including that JSCRIPT/HTA).
This is a one way direction, to "escape" from Outlook. :-)

Based on that LDIF support I also have an Excel sheet for importing and
exporting contact infos with LDIF format. That is a bi-directional way
    TB/AB <--> Excel.

TB/AB exports contacts with LDIF format, but in special situations (some
local characters like ÄÖÜ -- the German ones) it encodes items with
base64. Also for the way back (to get those ÄÖÜ etc or to get specific
LF/TAB situations) I use LDIF with base64 encoding for generating an
LIDF file to get it imported without any lose to TB/AB.

    So here the hoopes are:
    TB/AB export:
    1. use TB/AB LDIF export to get a LDIF-file
    2. use the Excel Macro to import it as a worksheet

    TB/AB import:
    1. use the Excel Macro to export a worksheet and get a LDIF-file
    2. use TB/AB LDIF import to add a new TB/AB

Within the XLS you can work on the contact entries -- all items are
decoded. You can sort by any item to find dups, edit, delete ... you
know how to use Excel ;-)

Your other problem to sync the TB/AB with Windows Mobile Contacts -- as
posted before -- I would recommend to use FinchSync.
That Java / standalone tool is one of the best I found. It supports
TB/AB contacts as well as ICS based events/todos with one sync -- if you
    want.

    Günter

PS If you would like to use the PIM_escapeOL tool just download it
from the ReminderFox pages. For the Excel you should send a normal mail.
Just delete 'NEWS' and 'no_SP_AM_' form the mail address.
