Flash. If you have 3 windows or tabs open each with 4 flash ads,
that is a total of 12 flash ads. It will take *lots* of CPU to
run them all at the same time.

Check whether your problem is related to Flash. If it is, you
may want to install the Flashblock extension and only run Flash
content when you need it.

Many users don't realize that even though a tab is not the active tab,
and a window that is not the active window, both continue to run Flash
applications. It doesn't take many of them to bring a processor to its
knees.
It appears that Flash is not the most cpu efficient application around....

I would just add a qualification to that last statement.

To me, it seems that *certain* Flash files are not efficient or are
problematic. I don't know anything about creating Flash objects, just
what I have noticed in the past.

I've had, on occasion in the past, several tabs open, with flash ads on
them, and not had any noticeable problems, slowdowns, etc.

On the other hand, using the same version of FF & Flash plugin, I've
encountered situations where a *single* Flash ad, running on the only
open window, with no other tabs open, brought FF and, indeed, my system,
to its knees. It would take minutes to respond to mouse or keyboard input.

In those instances, I was able to isolate it to a specific ad in the
rotation. Other Flash ads would work just fine, but once a particular
ad came up in the rotation, it was all over.

I've since installed Adblock Plus, so its not really an issue for me, now.

So there is definitely another factor, besides just the fact that its a
Flash file, that is contributing to the issue. Of course, as with
anything else computer related, if its poorly designed and/or written,
anything is possible.
