Firefox pops up a message that an update is found. I download and
    install it. It must restart.
So I get this error that I don't have permissions to write files (I
    know...)
I run firefox as administrator (run as...). Can't find a sign of the
downloaded update so I download it again and install it, restart.
    Everything find.
I start firefox as normal/limited user. The same error pops up. It
still wants to install the already installed update.
    Very annoying.
    What should be happening is:
    1) Message update found install?
    2) Yes, enter credentials of user part of administrators group
    3) Install, finish, don't restart automatically (because then it's
    running under administrator rights)

I had the same problem. I was in a non-administrator account and even after
installing in the administrator account I kept getting the error messages.
Only after making the limited user an administrator did things clear up and
it still worked after shifting the user back to non-administrator.

It seems we have to refuse such upgrades from non-administrator accounts,
but lots of people will be inconvenienced by the current procedure.
