Thread: Global "View/Sort-By" setting ???

  1. Global "View/Sort-By" setting ???

    After a fresh re-install, I am left with setting up numerous folders
    which get the Filtered email from numerous lists and such.

    In each folder, I am required to visit "View" then "Sort-By" then
    select "Date"
    select "descending"
    select "threaded"

    rather tedious for about 50 folders

    is there a global setting; a "default" setting, maybe in prefs.js or
    able to be put into user-prefs??

    thanks

    To save the:

    Select "Date"
    Select "descending"

    Just double click the date column heading this will then mean just one
    visit to sort-by.

    Still a pain but not as much.

    "http://boah.us/tools/thunderbird" :

    Change the default sort order

    * Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor
    * mailnews.default_sort_order: 1 = Ascending, 2 = Descending.
    * mailnews.default_sort_type: 17 = None, 18 = Date, 19 = Subject,
    20 = Author, 21 = ID (Order Received), 22 = Thread, 23 = Priority, 24 =
    Status, 25 = Size, 26 = Flagged, 27 = Unread, 28 = Recipient, 29 =
    Location, 30 = Label, 31 = Junk status, 32 = Attachments, 33 = Account

    OK ... helpful ... what I see after setting 2 and 22 is nothing is
    checked in the first portion of the table where "Date" starts the list
    of things in the pull-down menu of "Sort by" ..I see next "Descending "
    then "Threaded"

    It is unclear to me how the sorting will go with nothing in the first
    part of the dates ... see the two screenshots ...[1] is w/o anything in
    top and [2] shows the way I click-set the sorting, with "Date",
    "descending" , "threaded"

    It because you have set it to 22 , sort by 'Thread' which same as the
    Thread option in view > sort .
    Set mailnews.default_sort_type to 20 . Restart TB . create a new folder
    and copy some mails into it . Now see how it is sorted .

    well ... perhaps it's working differently here on Apple OS/X. Did what
    you said and now it's (screenshot) Sender/descending/un-threaded

    No , it is working as the way it should be .
    'Sender' is selected as you chosen 20 ( Author = Sender ) .
    Descending as you selected 2 .
    Well , probably as you not chosen 22 ( Threaded ) , TB selected
    Unthreaded. Notice , there is no value to choose Unthreaded .
