I had firefox once, set a master password, and did not write it down....yes,
    I know....that was stupid. I uninstalled the firefox browser, I don't
remember why. I have reinstalled it because my son said it is much better
than IE. Problem is, it keeps asking for my master password and I haven't a
clue. How can I retrieve it? Any answers would be appreciated ..send to
nursepjill@yahoo.com , as I don't even know how I got here, much less to
get back and look for answers. Thank you

  3. lost master password

I have a machine on which the user installed firefox 2.0, & lost the
password. I tried uninstalling firefox and manually deleting every mozilla
file I could find on the drive. Reinstalling firefox...and then I get the
same prompt to enter the master password. I tried the decrypt and strip apps
available and nothing has worked so far. Anyone got there yet?

Try going to profile and removing (temporaily)

    cert8.db
    key3.db

and any files that files with a long series of nuber with either a .s or
    a .w

Reopen FF You end up wiping out all your saved passwords. but you will
be able to create a new Master Password (That you should commit to
memory or write down in a little black book).

    Hi there,

I changed my master password yesterday and then promptly forgot the
clever alpha-numeric combination I'd chosen! How stupid am i?

Anyway, followed the advice in this thread and had a look back through
    some others and found this:

    http://groups.google.com/group/mozil...19a491f4473f7d

It worked a treat and apart from the fact that I have lost most of my
saved passwords, (some are on my desktop too so not the end of the
world), have resuced myself relatively easily.

Do you think if I rescue the file signons from my deleted files, it
would save all my passwords? Guess not as that would compromise the
    security of the whole thing

since you used a master passwords, then all your passwords would be
encrypted based on that password. So, saving the signons.txt file would
be useless unless you know what that master password is. If you don't
need a master password, then don't use it.
