Thread: Windows Media Player 10 and Firefox (with Media Player Connectivityplugin)

  1. Windows Media Player 10 and Firefox (with Media Player Connectivityplugin)

When I try to play a video in FF, I get a message: The file wmp.dll has
a version number 10.0.0.4036, where 10.0.0.4019 is expected" then an
option to go to the Microsoft site to install. I have reinstalled
Windows Media Player version 10, and still get the error in Firefox, not
in IE 6. I have checked all the other suggestions about copying dlls,
etc. and still won't play in those 2 sites below.
Any suggestions? I'm also using the Media Player Connectivity Plugin
    Sites failing: www.cnn.com, www.cbs.com.

ps: Never mind ... While writing this message, I tried disabling the
Media Player Connectivity plugin (version 0.6.3) and they now work
.....I'm posting this for others who might be seeing the same thing.

When I went to re-install Media Player 10, it had to install the Windows
Genuine Advantage plugin before it allowed me to install WMP. The WGA
runs at startup to validate that Windows is a valid copy. I've seen it
pop-up in my firewall asking for permission after installing MS updates.
Microsoft admitted last week that it tries to connect to the Internet
to "call home" regularly. I wonder how many times and how many ways I
have to validate my copy of Windows before they believe me???

This plugin calls home every time you start up Windows XP. And with all
kinds of additional software you want to download from the MS website you
have to validate your copy before you're able to download it.

Does this include Mac? I have problems with this same thing & I wonder
why the computer doesn't sense I already have Windows Media player 9
    installed.

I had this problem before I installed the Media Player Connectivity
pluggin. When I installed the MPC pluggin the problem was solved.

    Caver,
Unfortunately, MPC won't work in the current version (0.6.3), which I
just upgraded. That's what is giving that DLL message I described
above. I have to disable it to get the videos to play now. I posted a
message on their site so hopefully, the author will fix this latest
wrinkle as I really liked it until now.
