It will notify you if you want: Tools, Options, Advanced, and click on
the Update tab and fiddle around with the settings there until you get
    what you want.

Note that the updater is quite different then 1.0.7. To check for
updates to extensions and themes, you have to open the extensions or
themes Manager. Any that have available updates will have an Update
button. Update to the application itself will have popup notifications.

And I noticed that no longer is there a Download Manager for Extensions,
the "download bar" is integral to the Extension name area.

Don...what do you mean by this [[the "download bar" is integral to the
Extension name area]]. I don't see it, and don't remember the "download
manager for extensions" in 1.0.7 (and how does this compare to the
"downloads window" in tools/downloads - I'm a little confused here).

Also as an aside, I just updated adblock to build 41 and it says "nightly
41" in the extensions window, but it says "nightly 40" in the adblock
preferences window in tools/adblock. Just a little moz glitch I guess. And
the newer version of adblock also has some new white list options (in
tools/adblock) that were mentioned in another thread pertaining to "adblock
plus" [so apparantly adblock is becoming like adblock plus :-)] ...Pete

Thanks. Did not see it because it looked grayed out when in another tab.

Nah. It would be an error on Adblock's part. Somebody forgot to update
the version number in one place.

I didn't know they were adding new features to Adblock 0.5. Adblock 0.6
is supposed to be totally awesome, but it's also supposed to have been
    released a couple years ago.

BTW, nightly 42 has been released:

gwtc...why does the update tab refer to checking for updates to FF,
extensions and themes, and search engines (ie in the three check boxes) -
but right below that, it only refers to FF (where the two radio buttons
are). I noticed this when I first installed 1.5, but figured it was just
    another moz glitch :-) ...Pete

I don't understand what you're saying. The FF update feature only
works for FF, not TB. TB has its own. Is that what you're trying to say?

gwtc...everything I said was exactly correct (and I didn't say anything at
all about TB). Go to the update tab and look at it, and reread what I said,
and get back to me please...Pete

Matt...could you try and answer the first part of my question about the
"download stuff". I am curious about this. You snipped it so you will have
    to back up one post...Pete

When updating extensions in Firefox 1.5, the bar showing how much has
been downloaded is in the Extension Manager below the extension's name.

Firefox 1.0 used a separate window. I think I have seen that window in
    Firefox 1.5, though.

Well, that section only refers to Firefox, doesn't it? I don't think the
settings there apply to extensions or themes or search plugins.

They clearly don't Matt- thats why I was asking, and it is obviously a
glitch. And (for gwtc), I am still awaiting your response to my rebuttal to
    your response on this...Pete

It only refers to Firefox, because it only applies to Firefox. :-)

Then why have the check boxes for "extensions and themes" and "search
engines" in the updates tab. You guys are still not answering my question.
This makes no sense to me at all, and obviously is a glitch in the updates
    tab :-) ...Pete

I just don't know what your problem is. I've tried but you just don't
    follow. Lets try this:

The first line says "Automatically check for updates to:"

Firefox -- this will check to see if there is an update to Firefox itself.

Installed extensions or themes: This will check to see if there are
updates to any extension or theme you may have installed

Search Engines: This will check for any updates to the search engines
    you may have installed.

Now the next section is "When updates to FF are found":

Ask me what I want to do: the update will ask you if you want this
    update installed or not.

Automatically download and install the update: this is just what it
means. Go ahead, download the update, and install it.

Warn me if this will disable extensions or themes: This will tell you
if the current extensionor theme is incompatible with what you
    currently have.

If you ask another question, then sorry I can't help you because I
can't figure out what you're after. And from what the others are
replying with and you still question them, neither do they.

FF will search for updates to Extensions and Themes but it will NOT
install them for you. It is up to you to do that in Tools, Extensions or
    Tools, Themes.

FF would not and should not allow an extension or theme by an outside
source to install itself automatically. Having the user update it is the
    best method IMO.

There isn't a "moz glitch". It's just a UI to search for the external
updates. It made more sense for the devs to put it there than anywhere
else. The section below it is specifically for FF and those updates can
be trusted to automatically download if that is your choice. I would NOT
want my extensions or themes updating on their own. They can cause
enough problems when I'm aware of it!

The radio buttons don't refer to the theme/extension or search engine
updates, and they don't affect the theme/extension or seach engine
updates. What do you believe the glitch is?

Terry (and Q and gwtc)...I don't think you understand what I am asking, or
saying. If firefox searches for the extensions and themes and search
engines, what good is it if it isn't going to at least notify you that it
found some. The radio buttons only apply to FF. So the question is what
happens if you have the check boxes checked for themes and extensions and
search engines and it finds some. What happens next (ie is it going to
notify you that it found some or what - if not what good are the check
boxes). I can't be much clearer than that...Pete
