Which theme are you using? I use "Thunderbird (default)" and I see the
vertical-bar cursor with no problem.

All the time, but I'm on Linux. At times I experience some keyboard lag in
Firefox with more than 100 tabs open, but it's nothing compared to what
sometimes happened (on a much much slower machine) in Dos (not Windows) 3.1,
so I go on typing "blind", and eventually the display catches up.

This is exactly the case - "cursor periodically disappears".
Funny, this was the only reason why I switched from 1.5 on the first
place. I was hoping to get rid of disappearing. Chances TB2 just
inherited the problem from 1.5, but it does not make the problem less
annoying. :-(
