Thread: Opening Newsgroups Collapsed

  1. Opening Newsgroups Collapsed

I have just begun to use Thunderbird on Win XP and am a bit annoyed by
the fact I can't seem to get newsgroup threads to be collapsed whenever
I open a newsgroup. It briefly shows up with the threads collapsed and
immediately expands them. I haven't been able to find a setting
anywhere to make them always be collapsed.

Is there a way to do this?

    Thank you

Try View, Threads and the last two items are what you need.
    Or hit the \ key.

Thank you. Yes, already knew how to do that. What I was looking for
but failed to express was a way to avoid that step and have the
newsgroup come up collapsed and stay collapsed until I took the step to
    expand it.

    Thanks again.

That's a pet peeve of mine, too. AFAIK there is no setting to accomplish
    that.

Thank you Jerry. I guess it is nice to know someone else is peeved, too.

This seems to be a reported bug and should be fixed in TB2:

In the view setting, I think you have to Sort by > Threaded.

I do have Sort By Threaded checked. TB still opens groups expanded.

That will do it for the current TB session but the next time I open TB
    they are back to expanded.

    Thank you.
