You can control the prefs via Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General ->
    Config Editor.

    mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support
    mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed

Line wrapping is set via Tools -> Options -> Composition -> General.

Hmmm... That must be in the Windows version. I don't see that on Linux.

I have to wonder why there are such major differences between the windows and
linux versions. This difference leads me to believe that there are many more
far more subtle differences, causing things to not work correctly in one
    version or the other.

Probably because each attempts to be consistent with the "look & feel"
guidelines that apply to the respective environments.

I'm new at TB, and need to know what the settings at
    mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support and
    mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed do.

I just want to compose a message and see it in the unsent messages
folder in the same form. With the starting default settings,
it's different - - most lines that should end at 72 run across
    the screen.
