Since anyone can post by NNTP on these newsgroups, which are only
moderated /a posteriori/, there is not much one can do about spam: once
we have downloaded a spam header, even canceling that post won't remove
its subject from our list of newsgroup posts.
Best regards,
Tony.

One more time: filter GG posts. I see *no* spam from this server.
One rule. No spam.

As Blinky has pointed out many times, the best bet is to use an external
filtering program to drop all messages from googlegroups.com. The cost
in legitimate messages that are dropped is very small.
I have been using NewsProxy v1.2.4 for about a week and have seen no
spam. Messages from non spammers usually show up as quoted material in
other postings.

funny, highwinds may be doing some blocking - I saw those addresses bout
2 weeks ago over in FF or TB and filtered them. Haven't any since I had
s*40011 and g*40007...

Anyone running a private server (dedicated NNTP) and feeds from usenet
or any other source can filter any incoming messages. Trick is you have
to log into THIS server to benefit from the filter(s).

I see the point, but I am loathe to do it. These are the very people

correct, as a lot of them are posting using FF and not using
an email/news program.

there's nothing that can be done when that's just plain false.

How can you not see the spam that the rest of us are subject to? I
envy you. Tell us how exactly you manage to filter it out. I wish I
knew how.
There really should be a moderator in charge of this. I'm sure it
takes up a lot of expensive bandwith and so forth. It also makes me
dread reading the posts knowing I have to wade through it all.

To sum up the bug so far:
Posts made via Google are now sent to the mailing lists, so they can be
moderated -- this should prevent the spam from getting through.
This was done by making Google's copies of the groups moderated,
with the moderation addresses the same as for the mailing lists. An
unfortunate side effect is that Google is no longer archiving posts
made via Giganews, because they lack the proper "approved" headers.
In Dave's comment #11, he says he's opened a ticket with Giga to see
what the best solution to that problem is.

Right now, no-one should be seeing spam in mozilla.support.firefox,
mozilla.support.thunderbird, or mozilla.support.seamonkey, since early
March 27 EST. We've got posts coming via Google going through the
mailing list moderation system; however it is currently causing a
problem with the groups being archived.
So, it's still being worked on. But for now, spam in those groups is
being blocked.
