Thread: Bug list dependency view

  1. Bug list dependency view

Is there a way to view my bug list with in-line dependency tree(s)?
For example, I am looking at a bug list that shows all open bugs for a
given product. Some of these bugs depend on each other, and some are
independent. What I am currently seeing is:

    143
    151
    149
    153
    162

What I would like to see is:

    143
    149
    - 151
    - 153
    162

I am running Bugzilla 3.0. Is there a way to do this that I am
    missing?

    Thanks,
    Scott

it seems to me this can't be realised in a feasible way. Bugs may
depend on several bugs -- under which one should such a bug be
displayed? The dependency tree view copes with this trouble by
displaying such bugs more than once. Bug lists, if they did the same,
would lose some of their being a plain search result.

If you wanted to do this, you'd need to customize (at least)
    template/en/default/list/table.html.tmpl.

    Regards
    Marc

    Consider the following input:
    1 blocks 2, 3
    2 blocks 4, 5
    3 blocks 4, 5, 6
    7 blocks 2, 4, 6

Are you trying to show bugs blocking or blocked by a bug?

    I could show:
    1
    - 2
    - 3
    2
    - 4
    - 5
    3
    - 4
    - 5
    - 6
    4
    5
    6
    7
    - 2
    - 4
    - 6

    Or I could show:
    1
    2
    - 1
    - 7
    3
    - 1
    4
    - 2
    - 3
    - 7
    5
    - 2
    - 3
    6
    - 3
    - 7
    7

In case it isn't clear, neither of these are particularly helpful.
Dependencies are graphs with a single rule: not singly directed loops.

I think you'd be best served by being able to see blocks and depends
as columns so that you could at least see which bugs are heavy in the
list. Some anchor magic could probably be included to jump to relevant
    rows if they are present.

    Marc and timeless,

Thank you both for your responses. I obviously did not fully think
through the complications involved in my request.
