Thread: How to open .eml files with SM mail app useing the "open with" contextmenu item?

  1. How to open .eml files with SM mail app useing the "open with" contextmenu item?

    G'day gang.

I have a little dilemma, nothing earth stopping, but not one that
wouldn't arise if I were using separate browser and mail apps.

How do you open .eml files, with the SM mail app, using the "open with"
    context menu item?

I have tried pointing it to SM (1.1.4), but as you would guess, it opens
in a browser window. I have also tried adding " -mail to the end of the
program name in the "open with" browse box, as well as -mail, neither of
which XP Pro SP2 could find.

    Any help will greatly appreciated.

Peter, many thanks for saving me more wasted-years. I have saved-as html
for years, because of the system-preferences. Just compared a html
versus an eml and they render-identical in the browser. Barry.

Yes, and of course you are correct.
Although that's not the question I asked.
It may well be doing exactly what it's supposed to do, but can you
invoke the SM mail app from a command line instead of just the browser?
I don't get how a shortcut to SM pointing to /seamonkey" -mail will
invoke the mail app, but not by right clicking on the file it's self,
and choosing "open with" ........... /seamonkey with " -mail tacked on
    the end.

You can of course "save as" what ever, or use File>open file... But
neither of these approaches let you edit to said file.

Are! I think I just had one of those "are har!" moments. (-: Could you
"save as" > HTML, as Barry said, and then open it in SM Composer, edit,
save, then open the file in the mail app? I guess I will just have to
    try it.

Thanks for your help guys, I really do appreciate it.

Two young lovers go up to the mountains for a romantic winter vacation.
When they get there, the guy goes out to chop some wood. When he gets
back, he says, "Honey, my hands are freezing!"
She says, "Well, put them here between my thighs and that will warm them
    up."
After lunch he goes back out to chop some more wood and comes back and
says again, "Man! my hands are really freezing!"
She says again, "Well, put them here between my thighs and warm them
up." He does, and again that warms him up.
After dinner, he goes out one more time to chop some wood to get them
through the night. When he returns, he says again, "Honey, my hands are
    really, really freezing!"
She looks at him and says, "For crying out loud, don't your ears ever
    get cold?"

I can only work with the eml/html body and headers as content. I cannot
pull eml/html directly back into the Mail-News-component for
on-forwarding or storage in the SeaMonkey's mail-directories. Once mail
is compacted or emptied, I dont think it can be easily-recovered. I
imagine an eml or html would not have the code to directly-port back
    into the application? Barry.

AFAIK, currently it is not possible:
