    Xlib does not have any primitives for this. Many of the higher level
    graphics extensions do. You can also do it with XImage's within your
    application.

    If I recall it correctly you can use the "XIE" extension for that
    (assuming you are on Solaris, Xfree86 does not ship their Xservers with
    "XIE" enabled by default anymore) ...
