The current port of gzip is 1.2.4 (18 Aug 93) and refuses to decompress
gzip files created by Cygwin environment:

cygwin$ gzip -V
gzip 1.3.5

The same gzip file can be happily decompressed by OpenBSD 3.6 and
WinZip, so I know it not something particular to Cygwin.
