SAN DIEGO and AMSTERDAM -- December 8, 2003 -- Lindows.com today launched
ChoicePC (www.choicepc.com), a rallying point for citizens of the
Netherlands who object to the Microsoft Corporation's threats of legal
action against Dutch resellers who are offering Lindows.com products.
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), the world's largest software company, is
systematically threatening small Dutch computer companies with lawsuits for
offering an alternative product to Microsoft
(www.lindows.com/dutchresellers). Their threats are intended to intimidate
these small companies, who cannot afford attorneys, into dropping
alternative products and leaving Dutch computer users with only the option
of purchasing expensive Microsoft software.
Lindows.com (www.lindows.com) is a small software company that has been
battling Microsoft in the United States, where there are now more than 150
stores carrying Linux-based desktop software and computers. Michael
Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com, will be visiting the
Netherlands this week to offer support for those companies threatened by
"There is a real battle happening in the Netherlands," said Michael
Robertson. "The richest company in the world is trying to block choice and
maintain their monopoly by intimidating smaller companies, just as they
tried to do in the United States. I am confident that there are concerned
and informed people in the Netherlands who will help us -- and these small
Dutch computer companies -- stand up to Microsoft."
To help generate funds for the battle in the Netherlands, Lindows.com is
making available Lifetime memberships which can be purchased online. Of the
proceeds, 100% will go toward ensuring that there is choice in the
Netherlands and affordable software is available to the small businesses
and consumers. Lifetime members receive a lifetime license to all new
desktop versions of the LindowsOS operating system as they become publicly
available, including the new LindowsOS Laptop Edition, and an opportunity
to list their name on the ChoicePC website as a supporter of choice in the
Netherlands. Only 500 memberships are available, at $100 USD each.
Those interested in supporting choice in the Netherlands can visit
www.choicepc.com for full details and an online form. A running total on
the website lists how many Lifetime supporters have signed up, as well as
names of those signing if they choose to publish them. Commemorative
T-shirts for lifetime members will be available for pickup later this month
from various LindowsOS business partners in the Netherlands.
Michael Robertson will be holding a press conference in Amsterdam on
December 8, 2003 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel:
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 5, Amsterdam, Netherlands.
