Problem with updates where mirrorlist used

Over the last few days I've been having problems using the provided update
methods - urpmi and MandrivaUpdate. My urpmi.cfg is setup to use the
mirrorlist approach rather than having the media URLs hard-coded.

The mirror names are found OK and the remote MD5SUM file downloaded OK. The
actual required files appear to be located OK, however at least some of the
actual rpm file downloads don't happen properly - very slow download with
speed and ETA values set at strange values.

The interesting thing is that I can use my browser to go to the relevant
media location and download the required rpm without any fuss and at normal
speed for my configuration.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour? It may just be a specific mirror
causing problems, but I've not checked this possibility yet - i.e. by
hard-coding another mirror URL. My other thought is that there my be an
underlying urpmi bug, but I wanted to check experiences here before going
to Mandriva to make a report. BTW, I didn't see any relevant comments in
their forums either.

Yep, my 2009 install is set that way and seems to pick mirrors overseas.
Saw my 2008 install do that also. My solution was to delete the
mirrors, Go to [url]http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/[/url], clicked both
Switch to manual mirror selection (not recommended)
Switch to custom media selection (not recommended)
and picked my mirror and media.

You can also select a specific mirror through the media manager in MCC.

Remove existing sources and choose "Add media" from the File menu.
It will download the list of available mirrors and let you select one.

Remove all the sources including the CD and go to smart-urpmi.
