  1. kde4 problem - ldconfig can't stat new libraries

    After following http://www.linux-wizard.net/index.php?id_blog=220 kde4
did not start. I trackedit down to kstartupconfig4 not being able to
find libkdefakes.so.5 and that is because ldconfig -v does not find
    /opt/kde4/lib

Adding this directory to /etc/ld.conf.so gives
ldconfig: Can't stat /opt/kde4/lib: No such file or directory

And yet the directory is there etc.

    What can I do?

    HB

Post the output of "cat /etc/ld.so.conf" and "ls -l /opt/kde4/lib".

I suspect the last line in /etc/ld.so.conf does not end with a newline.
Edit the file, position the cursor at the end of the last line, press
the enter key, to move the cursor to the beginning of the next line,
and then save the file. Then try the ldconfig command again.
