Thread: A plea to writers of "automatically generated" config files

  1. A plea to writers of "automatically generated" config files

    There are more and more "automatically generated" config files in
    Mandriva. For those of you who write such things, instead of having
    them say:

    # DO NOT EDIT - this is an automatically generated file
    # (data follows)

    much better to say

    # DO NOT EDIT - this file is automatically generated by:
    # (SAY HOW IT IS GENERATED AND ESPECIALLY WHERE THE VARIABLES
    # THAT MATTER ARE REALLY LOCATED)
    # (data follows)

    Please?

    Thanks,

    David Mathog

    I'll second that!

    David, I would suggest you take your request to the Mandriva
    Club forum. Some Mandriva folks monitor the forum and do
    take action on good, important ideas. I have not seen any
    indication any Mandriva employees ever look at what is in
    these newsgroups.

    I find that the sysconfig.txt rosetta stone helps if nothing else. 8-)

    $ cd /usr/share/doc/initscripts*/
    $ ls -al
