It's a usenet alt group. While it's possible to issue rmgroup control commands,
due to abuse in the past, most usenet servers will not act on the rmgroup commands.

It's the same with creating newgroups. Most usenet server operators will only add
a group, if one of their subscribers asks, or one of they're peers adds it.

Anyone can ask to have the group removed. It's up to each usenet server operator,
whether or not they'll drop the group.

In addition, it's possible someone will get hold of an old Mandrake installation
cd/dvd, install it, and then look for a Mandrake newsgroup, for help. So a few
people remain subscribed to the group, to point them to the new Mandriva products,
and newsgroup.

You can find lots of info about usenet at http://www.faqs.org/usenet/
