Have you considered switching to an ethernet modem? Not expensive, and
    saves a lot of troubles.

Configuration is done via the Web interface of the ehternet modem.

The most easy way to an ethernet DSL modem is to use the ethernet DSL
modem offered by your ISP/DSL provider. So check whether your ISP/DSL
    provider does that.

If not, buy a second hand Alcatel / Thomson Speedtouch 510 / 546
    ethernet modem.
