    Software Engineer IV

    Location - San Jose, California

    Description
    Participate (in a senior/ lead role) on a project team of engineers
    involved in development of software for Cisco products. Requires use
    of a strong background in SW design, documentation and implementation,
    on projects that may include any of the following list of
    responsibilities: Lead project team on the build of a major SW
    release, including building the software, coordinating with other
    departments, and participating in scheduling (from conception to
    testing). Architect, design and deliver system software after
    specification of platform requirements. Demonstrate a high degree of
    originality and innovation in defining product and project level
    architecture. Significantly influences the design of interfaces
    between products to ensure interoperability. Resolve design issues.
    Define new software product features. Develop large portions of
    software independently and rapidly. Champion new improved design
    methodologies. Define Reliability, Availability, Serviceability (RAS)
    goals for products. Incorporate RAS in product design. Participate and/
    or take a lead role in Cisco's Patent Program.

    Contribute to the development of networking functionality including
    but not limited to routing infrastructure, unicast protocols,
    multicast routing protocols, signaling protocols and routing
    applications.
    In addition to SW Eng III: Ability to apply extensive experience as a
    networking generalist or specialist. Requires experience with more
    than one of the LAN/WAN and network layer protocols. Understand new
    market requirements. Possess in-depth knowledge of own product and
    broad knowledge of other related products. Understand advanced
    architecture principles and design practices. Understand advanced
    datacom concepts. Possess in-depth understanding of competitive
    products. Superior bug fixing and testing skills. Ability to plan
    large projects. Ability to solve system wide problems. Initiates
    informal reviews of ideas and technical objectives within and across
    business units. Work is performed without management direction.
    Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of
    assignment. Completed work is reviewed by management through
    consultation from a relatively long time perspective, for results.
    Translates BU level goals in to own work assignments. Interfaces cross-
    functionally and lead team collaboration extending beyond work group.
    Customer resolution requires excellent verbal skills and professional
    presentation. Sponsors and models exemplary team interaction.
    Encourages and accepts personal feedback. Mentors junior team members.
    Demonstrate ability to successfully influence win-win cross-functional
    dynamics. Resolves conflicts by fostering team communications.
    Provides technical guidance to small teams. Takes ownership for
    initiatives and code facets, and then drives ongoing evaluation and
    success. Determines own methods on issue resolution. Uses judgment to
    solve problems where protocol might not exist. Applies high degree of
    ingenuity using broad parameters for foundation of decisions. Makes
    product level decisions independently. Technical, Industry, Business
    and Cross-Functional Knowledge. Partnership. Solve Problems & Make
    Decisions. Demonstrate Leadership. Establish Plans. Think Globally.
    Dedication to Customer Success. Innovation and Learning. Acknowledged
    technical expert on project.

    Prior experience in developing routing infrastructure, unicast and
    multicast routing protocols, signaling protocols is an advantage.
    Experience in troubleshooting in embedded systems, in customer
    networks would be an added plus.
    Typically requires MSEE/CS combined with 5-7 years of related
    experience, or BSEE/CS combined with 7-10+ yrs related experience.

    Yeah, right. I'm sure Cisco always uses gmail since they couldn't
    possibly have their own mail server.

    Many companies are having problems with staff creating outside email
    accounts. Many of them have had to begin blocking web access to such
    places as aol, gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc., just to minimize these
    kinds of security breaches.

    So it is very plausible someone from Cisco really is using gmail.

    But it is just as plausible this is someone else trolling for contact
    info, for reasons varying from competitors looking for people to hire
    who would otherwise be matches for Cisco, or scam artists trying to
    catch people whole might be interested in letting some cash depart.

    I'm thinking it's just a headhunter looking for a head to get him
    a commission.
