Not exactly - Tom Tom is also Linux/GPL powered
    http://www.tomtom.com/page.php?Page=gpl

Prior to Sync, there was OnStar.
Not sure what OS, but not Windows.
    Embedded UNIX or Linux? QNX?
    Anybody know more about OnStar?

    Yea...
And the programs that come with it don't run under Linux so you can't
    update the maps etc.

There is a thread in the Ubuntu group about this.

    OnStar is nothing like Sync.
BTW OnStar snoops on your driving habits, records them and will report them
back to GM should you have an accident driving at 80mph....
IOW insurance company lawyers LOVE OnStar.

If you're not sure, how do you know it's not Windows?

Oh, you're Rex - you just know.
