These guys must really be broke or hate Microsoft if they're willing to put
up with software as crappy as this for months....

He could well have a problem at the memory at the top of his 4GB. Linux
makes use of as much memory as is available, while Windows still thinks
that memory is scarce and tries to copy as much to disk as possible.
Windows probably never uses his top memory so it wouldn't notice if it is
faulty up there.
