Using Glom
This is a little database program I got for Ubuntu.
It works, and for what it does, it seems to work well.
Glom does not give me good comfort level.
It is almost like the program interface was
designed in the 80's to 90's.
It has not errored. And it seems to work.
It is just the interface seems to be designed
by the Unix guy from the 80's.
It has that design and concept.
The concepts too. It is nothing like
the cool interface and ease of use
of FileMaker.
But, at least it seems to work.
And a programmer can figure it out.
I am not sure a marketing guy could
to make a small database.

Filemaker Pro is up to version 9, and has been around for some years, Glom
is up to version 1.7.1 and is not attempting to be Filemaker Pro. It simply
has some of its features.
The best part is that the Filemaker Pro web page advertises it as
a 'Universal Application'. Surely some mistake!

Surprising....

Welcome to Linux where the UI is the last thing the OSS programmers
consider..

The Linux loons will love it!
Everyone else will hate it...

Of course not.
The Linux loons probably stole the interface from some Windows or DOS
database program that flopped.

Welcome to Linux where being a programmer is half the fun!

Gregory Shearman is no record as saying that he thinks implementing a
consistent and decent UI is a waste of time for a programmer since
people can make do with any old crap since they're not idiots.
Amazing but true.

It is amazing how little knowledge of the issues surrounding technology so
many in COLA have.

The fact that OS X is growing and Linux isn't, tells you that OS X is
offering things that Linux is not.

I have seen some very learned people get totally flomoxxed trying to use
Linux for even simple tasks.

Re: Using Glom
Hi Moshe, I personally love to hear some contrarian and intelligently
phrased opinions, and stuff like that, but wanted to ask you to
slightly reduce their number, alt.os.linux.ubuntu becomes a little
harder to wade through. So perhaps you could post just slightly
less. Thanks a lot.

Naw, what is amazing is that you people think that most users cannot
learn.
Also amazing is the word-twisting that goes on. "Fraudron" is a
prime-cut example.
Finally, it is amazing that Snit equates UI issues with "technology",
and then follows it ups with a general smear of the capacities of a
group of Linux users.
This from the guy who posts his name on his web site, mispelled as
"MIchael".
In other words, /all/ of the quoted material above is misleading at
best, and insulting at worst.
Congratulations, trolls.

I do not believe this. You fabricated that claim about me. In other words:
you lied.

You twisted his name. How ironic. LOL!

I did no such thing. You are again lying.

I have noted the weaknesses of many of the "advocates" in COLA. They
clearly know a *lot* less than they pretend to. This is simply a fact. Do
you need examples? Unlike many in COLA I am happy to provide them!

I did no such thing. Again you are lying.

You sure lie a lot.

More lies from Liarnut. Where was this ever stated?

Where? In COLA? Yes. But not real Linux users. You seem think COLA is
somehow representative. It is not. COLA "advocates" are generally more
useless than a chocolate teapot. Yourself included.

Nowhere. As you note: he is lying.

To be clear: I never *equated* the two.

Also a lie from him. It was misspelled on a video site I do not control.
