Now that Microsoft has decided not to purchase Yahoo! it is time to wonder whether MSFT needs to exit the Internet Search business completely. After all, their market share is now so small (less than 7%) that they're about to 'fall off the map.'

Its about more than search (as Google has demonstrated). Search is often
the beginning of further transactions. Many of them financial. Microsoft
wants to position itself to collect a piece of every transaction
conducted on the 'net. Hence, they have to be in the search business.
