Systems Engineer

Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism is currently seeking
a Systems Engineer, this position reports to the Manager, Information
Technology the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and support
of information technology solutions serving the needs of the academic and
administrative entities affiliated with the Graduate School of Journalism.
Areas of focus include assisting with the definition of functional IT
requirements for academic and administrative stakeholders, supporting the
School’s information technology infrastructure, and the design and
development of basic to moderate software applications to leverage web
technologies.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Experience: 2 - 4 years related experience

Other Skills:
•Experience with some of the following technologies: Windows, UNIX/Linux
or Mac OS X server environments, Active Directory, Open LDAP, DNS, IIS,
Apache, HTML, XML, Perl, Shell scripting and JavaScript •Must be able to
work a flexible schedule, weekends and some evenings when required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills •Highly technically
skilled and administratively organized •Extensive experience working
with end users •Assertive and able to work successfully in a fast paced
work environment •Ability to proactively work on problems of diverse
scope •Exhibit tact, analytical and critical-thinking skills •Strong
initiative, resourcefulness and follow-through •Ability to independently
research problems and create solutions •Server Administration
•Desktop Support: software installation and configuration; hardware
maintenance and troubleshooting
