Ford sells Jaguar/Land Rover to Tata

Tata, India's top vehicle maker, has been in talks with Ford since it was
chosen as the frontrunner to buy Jaguar and Land Rover a few days into 2008.

But analysts have questioned how Tata will incorporate the luxury brands
into its stable of sturdy trucks and functional passenger cars, including
the Nano, the world's cheapest car which it unveiled in January.

Jaguar and Land Rover are two of the most unreliable cars/trucks/suvs ever
    made.
Just ask any yuppie who has ever owned one.

Ford is smart to unload them.

Now that Jaguar and Land Rover are owned by "Tata" motors of India the
quality will surely go up to Fiat levels.

    Then again... probably not.

Personally I don't care much about Land Rover but I'd hate to see the demise
of the Jaguar brand. Long before I was old enough to drive I loved the V-12
Jags (XKE) from the late 60's and early 70's. In many ways it's such a
marquee brand and it's sort of sad to see a company with so much automotive
    history going down the sewer.

    Yea it is.
Jaguar has in recent years become a trophy car of sorts.
It's beautiful inside, rides well but it's no longer the race monster it
    used to be.
When Ford made the mini-jag, which was really a Taurus on steroids, it was
the end of the line IMHO.

They are known for horrible reliability although Land Rover is the absolute
    worst for reliability.
They too used to be a good company until they 'yuppified' their cars.
Now they are electrical and mechanical nightmares.

All that aside, I think it is interesting that these paragons of British
industry are now in the control of the Indian "colonials", often referred to
by some term that is the Brit equivalent of the "n-word" in the USofA. A
convenient comeuppance for Shestowicz, Kent, Homer, and a few other grumps
with .UK ISPs! I am totally amused.

It will be amusing to see the new Indian managers show up at the plant in
order to properly supervise the british workers. Eventually many of the
factory workers will be layed off as the legendary poor quality of these
    vehicles gets even worse.

Apropos to this thread because like a british car, it looks nice but the
quality, finish and attention to details simply isn't there.

The COLA nuts like to talk about how 'linux has this' and 'linux supports
that' but in many areas like sound, multimedia, wireless cards, hibernation,
printers, scanners and things like that linux support is substandard.

Comparing linux to OSX or Windows is like comparing a british car to a Lexus
or BMW. Technically the brit car has air-conditioning, power seats and the
same set of features that the Lexus and BMW has. But the quality is
substandard and the same 'features' don't work as well if they work at all.

British cars have always been electircal nightmares and the latest Jags and
Range Rovers etc are no exception.

Ask anyone who owned an MG car and they will tell you.

Why do the Brits drink warm beer? Because they use British-Leyland
    refrigeration equipment.

That's funny because apparently one of the things holding up the
new Hauppauge component capture device is the level of h264 in Vista.

You will have to be a bit more precise with your FUD since a number
of us do all the sort so of things you are trying to complain about
with Linux at a higher level of functionality than most Windows users
    would bother with.

Although of all of those thing two are the sort that are hardly
any reason to brag about Windows over (namely wifi and hibernation).
Frequent experience with both of these in Windows fails to impress.
