Clogwog is partially correct. From the help page of the
    displayed graph:

    (?) Market Share Help

    Operating System Market Share Trend

This report lists the market share of the top
operating systems in use. This data is derived
by aggregating the traffic across our network of
    websites that use our service.

Data is aggregated monthly and is available to
subscribers for the prior month shortly after the
    current month begins.

    [...]

We use a unique methodology for collecting this data.
We collect data from the browsers of site visitors
to our exclusive on demand network of small to
medium enterprise live stats customers. The sample
size for these sites is more than 40,000 urls.
The information published is an aggregate of the
data from this network of hosted website statistics.
The site unique visitor and referral information is
    summarized on a monthly basis.

    [...]

In other words, this large comprehensive list is useless
for gathering statistics on Ubuntu if the Web browser does
    not properly identify itself.

The User-Agent: string on my browser (Epiphany) is:

    Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;.en; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070912 Epiphany/2.18 Firefox/2.0.0.6

No mention at all of Gentoo in there, is there?

And therefore, as one might expect:

    http://marketshare.hitslink.com/repo...pcustom=gentoo

shows similar zeroes across the board.

    http://marketshare.hitslink.com/repo...pcustom=redhat

    Ditto.

    http://marketshare.hitslink.com/repo...&qpcustom=suse

    Ditto.

    http://marketshare.hitslink.com/repo...pcustom=debian

    Ditto.

I frankly don't know precisely what to conclude here beyond the
simple observation that this methodology is missing something.

Linux. An OS which actually, unlike certain other offerings, works.
