You can enter single mode by passing linux single at lilo prompt.. Or you
could boot from a livecd (Knoppix or whatever you like) and mount your
filesystem. If you installed from bootable cd, try using that to gain
access to your system. Usually you pass something like:
linux root=/dev/hda1 ro
after booting from CD.
