If you could provide a few more details, I'd be glad to try and help.
- What is your Motherboard?
- What Chipset does it use?
- What Kernel are you using? (2.2.x / 2.4.x / 2.6.x)
- Are you using a precomiled kernel image? (the default)
- What Architecture is the kernel optimized for? (i386, K7, etc)
- What errors does it give you?
Also, if you could append the output of lsmod and lspci, it'd make it
easier to identify the problem.
Keep an open mind.
