Hi, we are running at the moment a mail-server witch consists of SuSE 9.0.

The following packages are installed:

apache2-mod_php4-4.3.3-13
apache2-prefork-2.0.48-9
apache2-mod_perl-1.99_09_20030807-40
apache2-2.0.48-9
postfixpostfix-2.0.14-54
cyrus-imapd-2.1.15-35
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.15-57
cyrus-sasl-2.1.15-57
mysql-4.0.15-9
spamassassin-2.55-75
perl-spamassassin-2.55-75
amavisd-new-20030616p5-23

Some hardware specs:

p4 2.6GHZ
512 MB
2 maxtor drives in software raid 1

The config:

Mysql setup with the users, mailserver checks if user exists in the
database.
We use Spamassassin to filter out the unwanted spam.
Apache2 is used to serve webmail.
Mysql is setup with max_connections = 500

The problem at the moment is the use of memory, processes are killed to free
memory, and this is not what i want.
Also noticed the swap is totally full.

Also have to mencion, when apache2 is shut down the swap is not used and the
commands executed in a ssh shell are running normal, before i had to wait
some seconds maybe minutes.

The system has about 2000 user accounts in Mysql and it should hold about
500 connections at once, more is better.
What to do to get it running right.

Is the main problem in apache2 configuration?

Maybe someone can help me out.

Thanx in advance,

Robert
