  1. KDE/X dual head issue

    Hello all,

This is kind of a strange problem related to X and KDE.

I have a dual flat panel setup.I have an ATI X300
display adapter with an analog and digital out. The
flat panels are a Hitachi CML174B and a Samsung
740B(I think). Linux distro is Suse 9.3.

If I connect the Samsung to the digital out, and the
Hitachi to the Analog out(both using analog inputs)
I get seperate displays, but backwards, the primary
is on the right, I want it on the left and have set the
    xorg.conf file to put Sreen[0] LeftOf Screen[1].
If I simply reverse the pysical connections on the
card, so that the Hitachi is now on the digital out, and
the Samsung is on the Analog out, and restart X,
I lose the seperate displays, and get mirrored displays,
which is of no use to me, I want the real estate.

So, the question is, what is X or KDM doing to probe
the displays and make its own corrections, ignoring the
xorg.conf settings ? This one has me stumped.

I am sure you have already said, "just swap the
monitors on your desk you idiot", and I can
do that, but the Hitachi display is FAR better then
the Samsung and I want that to be my primary, IE
on the left. To correct this, I would have to put the
Samsung on the left. This is also complicated by the
fact that I have multipe systems via a KVM, so I would
have to do a bunch of cable swapping on the other
systems as well since XPee has the primary on the left.

Does anyone know where I can get detailed xorg.conf
settings that may help fix this ? I tried x.org, but did not
    find much of any help.

Any and all suggestions appreciated and thanks in
    advance.

This is X only, so I have added comp.os.linux.x to the list and set it as
    followup-to.

You need to define which is which in your xorg.conf, using
    Option "MonitorLayout" "type"

    CRT for your analog settings
    TMDS for your digital settings

This will help you to get the right out-put to be used instead of how the
graphics card feels which is the primary (this one will be screen0).
