From a console as root do pidof kded.
Look to see if you have multiple instances
of kded running. Sometimes its a wedged app that
is calling on kded (the kde demon) and it may
spawn multiple instances of kded or die, release
kded and start again in rapid succesion.

Do your logs show anything amiss?

There is just 1 kded-prosess.

Right now, kded uses 602 MB of memory, and it uses 80-90 % of cpu.
There is only 512 MB of RAM on this PC. Do i need more to run KDE 3.5?

Are you opening all of those files at once?! The issue may be the fact that
you have too much open, not the application you are running.
