    I think you must try in

    /opt/kde/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

    Sample line:

    ServerCmd=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -logverbose 1 -dpi 75 -nolisten tcp
    ServerCmd=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -logverbose 2 -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp

    In fact, in kdmrc, I've found these lines:
    ServerCmd=/usr/X11R6/bin/X
    ServerArgsLocal=-nolisten tcp

    and I just modified the second one:
    ServerArgsLocal=-br -nolisten tcp

    I've got now a full black screen instead of the ugly checkered and it's
    fine!
