  1. KDE 3.4 Level A sound question

    Hey all.

Please keep this post in english so i can reed the comments.

I have downloaded the 3.4 level A version of KDE for Suse
But i have a little problem,

My sound notifications are not working.
    Other sounds works well.

I Know this problem is from KDE because when i use Gnome there is no problem
    at all.

Does someone know how to solve the problem?

    Thx....

    Greets Alex

Did you download and install the arts-1.4.0 sound server too?

Gnome uses the esd sound server, so it could be a problem with aRts.

The solution proposed in the thread "No sound in KDE 3.3.2" applies to KDE
3.3.91 beta level "A" as well.

Read my message at the bottom of the page here:

Get the 3 RPMs over there:

    http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/arts_...3.2-3.i586.rpm
    http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/arts_...3.2-3.i586.rpm
    http://s93545360.onlinehome.us/arts_...3.2-3.i586.rpm

Install with 'rpm --force -Uvh arts*.rpm' and do what I said. It works for me.

You can also just wait for a while, RPMs for KDE 3.4 RC 1 are arriving soon!
    :-)

Usually you can find the aRts package(s) where you found the KDE
    packages.

You appear to be very unlucky. You should try to rebuild it from sources:

    ftp://download.kde.org/pub/kde/unsta....0-rc1.tar.bz2

If you have SuSE 9.2, you can get the binaries directly here:

    ftp://download.kde.org/pub/kde/unsta...SuSE/ix86/9.2/

Look at the path! You should consider downloading everything to be on the
    safe side. ;-)

I haven't tested yet but I will soon, very soon.

I've also the same problem with kde 3.4.0 and have found that the wav files
work correctly but not the ogg nor the mp3's.
I currently have a workaround: use an external player instead of the default
kde player. What's even more strange is that artsplay works perfectly
    well !

I made a similar post to alt.os.linux.suse - The last time I did an update
via Yast it was the "arts" RPM that was broken. Someone later built a
version from source and posted it, which worked fine on my computer.
