  1. No Sound KDE 3.3.2

    Hi,

I updated my Suse 9.0 -System yesterday from KDE 3.1.4 to 3.3.2 and the
sound from KDE doesn't work anymore. I mean the sound directly from KDE like
the messages: KDE starts, KDE stops and so on. Sound from other applications
    like XMMS works great.
Why? Is there an option to enable it anywhere? Thanks!

Best to compile and install the src rpm from Arts

Edit /home/user/.kde/share/config/knotifyrc and make sure you have these
    values:

    [StartProgress]
    Arts Init=true
    KNotify Init=true
    Use Arts=true

If they happen to be false, change them and restart KDE.

    Hope that helps.

I found that this worked, at least on the 3 SuSE 9.2 systems I have.
Someone has compiled an arts.rpm here, but I'm *not* sure if it works
    with any version but 9.2:-
    http://www.freewebs.com/sbsoftea/arts-1.3.2-3.i586.rpm

I downloaded it & installed it with the rpm -Uvh --force command.
After logging into KDE again, the event sounds worked.
If you want to try it, right-click the link and select "Save Target
As...", otherwise the download might not work. The speed will probably
    not be that fast either...

Also, it has been reported to the KDE Bug Tracking System (Bug 94918) &
there someone said they had installed the original arts.rpm off the CD,
ignoring all warnings, & it worked alright.
    http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94918
"Downgrade of the arts package, while ignoring the dependencies, fixes the
    problem." Jorg.

I hope this is of some help.

Ron, I've just made it by going in this page:
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/280418
and doing a rpm -U --force of the rpm's posted by BruceCadieux in that page.
It suddently worked. And note that I run a Suse 9.1 and afaik thos rpms are
for the 9.2, but it worked.
    Hope it helps,

Yes it helped. Except that I did rpm -ivh --force as suggested on the forum.
Now I have 2 arts installed. Not very useful.

Any way, it works like a charm. I went to the Control Center / Sound System.

[x] Activate sound system -> Off then back On. Apply so the system restarts...

Now, the system notification is back online. Thanks.
