Hello,
is there a unique source of fonts in KDE (or X11? or PDF Viewer?). I mean
will all programs display the same available fonts? How can I see which
fonts are installed?

I use xlsfonts to get a list.
Small snippet result example:
$ xlsfonts
-urw-nimbus sans l-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-microsoft-cp1251
-urw-palatino-bold-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-standard
-urw-palatino-bold-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso10646-1
Current fount count on my install,
$ xlsfonts | wc -l
5171
